  • Round 1 - 10/30/09

    JB Mauney takes the first round; Kody Lostroh remains in first place.

    Three names are at the top of the standings after the first round of the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals, held Friday night, 10/30/09, at the Thomas & Mack Arena in Las Vegas, NV: Lostroh, Marchi and Mauney. Kody Lostroh and Guilherme Marchi are from the Wrangler family.

    JB Mauney won the first round of the Finals competition riding the bull Chester, owned by Mendell/Jaeger, and scoring 89.75 points. The effort puts JB just half a point away from the World standings second place competitor, Guilherme Marchi.

    While Guilherme did not score in the first round, Kody earned 84 points riding the bull Red Kat and is 378.75 points ahead of Guilherme in the chase for World Championship gold. Also from the Wrangler family, Travis Briscoe placed third in round one action, earning 88.75 points on the bull Little Juicy. Travis is currently 13th in the World standings.

  • Round 2 - 10/31/09

    "Best bull in the world" is ridden for round two victory; Wrangler's Valdiron de Oliveira takes fourth.

    The second round of the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals, held Halloween night, 10/31/09, at the Thomas & Mack Arena in Las Vegas, NV, delivered excitement with winning rides in the 90s and a bull never before ridden in competition bested for the round win.

    Pete Farley took the round two victory after riding the 2008 PBR World Champion Bull, Bones, for a whopping 93.25 points. Pete: "“He's a bull where you know you have no room for error at all. He's hard to ride and that's why no one wanted to pick him. It didn't make me want to prove anything except to myself that I could ride the best bull in the world."

    Wrangler's Valdiron de Oliveira earned the fouth place position among the round winners by riding the bull Spitfire for 90.5 points. Valdiron is in fourth place in the World standings after round two.

    Kody Lostroh maintains his lead in the standings, though it has narrowed to just 126.25 points, while fellow Wrangler family member Guilherme Marchi dropped from second place to third in the World standings.

  • Round 3 - 11/1/09

    Wrangler's Robson Palermo rides his third bull; wins round three.

    Robson Palermo, 2008 PBR World Finals Event Champion and Wrangler family member, rode his third consecutive bull, scoring 92.25 points on the bull Black Pearl during the third round of the PBR World Finals. Robson is now sixth in the World standings and currently holds the second place spot in the event average. sits second in the event average with 266.75 points.

    Robson: "I've seen that bull a couple times at PBR events over the year. Chad Berger (stock contractor) told me to pick him and I'd win the round. He was really rank and strong and quick. I was so excited to ride him." Robson is one of only four riders to ride all three of his bulls over the first three days of competition.

    Kody Lostroh, currently first in the World standings, stood his ground, earning second place in the third round by riding the bull Copp Hou for 91 points. Also wearing the Wrangler name, Valdiron de Oliviera placed fifth in the round with an 88.75 point ride on the bull Deja Blu. Valdiron is fourth in the World standings.

  • Round 4 - 11/5/09

    Wrangler's Lostroh takes the round, maintains the top spot in the World standings.

    The action resumed Thursday night, November 5, 2009, in the PBR Built Ford Tough World FInals at the Thomas & Mack Arena in Las Vegas, NV. After a few days of rest, Kody energized the crowd with a round four, 90.25 point ride on the bull Misson Accomplised. The effort earned Kody the round win and also moved him to splitting second and third in the overall event average with a total of 353.5 points. Kody holds the lead in the World standings by 480.5 points over second place JB Mauney.

    Kody: "Dustin (Elliott) rode that bull last weekend and we joked that we should just switch bulls for a round this weekend. I got lucky and drew him. It feels great to be in my position because I've been at the bottom before and how I'm at the top. Doing (what) I'm doing right now is what I was made for."

    The Wrangler family also cheered Valdiron de Oliveira for winning third place in the round with a 88.25 point ride on the bull Copp Hou. Valdiron is fourth in the World standings and is currently splitting the second and third event average place with Kody.

  • Round 5 - 11/6/09

    Kody Lostroh does it again, wins round five and widens his lead in the World standings.

    Wrangler family member and World standings leader Kody Lostroh repeated his fourth round win with a 91.25 point winning ride on the bull Troubadour. This was his third match-up with Troubadour, who is in the running for the title of 2009 World Champion Bull. Kody's consistency moves him up in the event average to second place. Kody holds the lead in the World standings by 732.50 points over second place JB Mauney.

    Kody: "The previous three times, he'd (Troubadour) spun to the right. So tonight when he spun left, he still bucked just as hard, but it was just a little different feel. That bull kind of backs up while he's spinning, backs up under himself, and wants to pull you over his head. It all worked out good though."

    Wrangler's Austin Meier won third place in round five with a 90 point ride on the bull Far West. Austin sits splitting sixth and seventh in the event average and is ranked eleventh in the World standings.

  • Round 6 - 11/7/09

    Five-way split for first makes history in round six.

    Never before have five riders scored the same in a PBR round to all tie for first place. It happended Satruday night, November 7, 2009, in the sixth round of the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals. Five riders scored 89.25 points to split first place in the round. Wrangler's Kody Lostroh and Robson Palermo were in the group of five who each earned $14,000 of the first place money for the history-making effort.

    The final round of the Finals will be neck-and-neck between Wrangler's Kody Lostroh and JB Mauney. The two competitors are only .5 points apart from each other in the event average standings. Kody holds the lead in the World standings by 1,034.50 points. On preparing for the final round, Kody: "I approach tomorrow the same way I've been doing it all year. I keep it as simple as possible because that's what works for me."

    Wrangler's Guilherme Marchi, Valdiron de Oliveira and Robson Palermo sit third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the World standings going into the final round.

  • Championship Round - 11/8/09

    Wrangler's Kody Lostroh is crowned the 2009 PBR World Champion.

    It was the tightest race in PBR history, and Kody Lostroh came out on top. Kody was crowned the 2009 PBR World Champion after the championship round of the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals.

    During the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals, Kody took two consecutive round wins and split one other round win. Additionally, Kody finished second in the overall average after riding seven of eight bulls for a total of 624 points. Overall, Kody totaled 16,640 points over the entire 2009 season while earning $1,601,625 in prize money.

    Runner-up to the 2009 World Championship, JB Mauney finished just 594 points behind Kody. Kody and JB went head-to-head throughout the Finals, with the decision for the championship coming down to the last round and the event average standings.

    Kody: "It's really a dream come true for me. I didn't have a clue what the points were, and to be honest with you, I didn't care. I was still there to do my job. I was planning on riding that bull no matter if I had it won or I didn't have it won."

    Wrangler's Guilherme Marchi finished third in the World standings; Valdiron de Oliveira, fourth; Robson Palermo, fifth; and, Austin Meier, sixth. Austin finished second in the seventh round with a 90.5 point ride on the bull Nasty Town.

    The bull Code Blue, owned by Walton & Wagoner/Berger & Struve, was named the 2009 World Champion Bull.
